I, too, was greatly shocked and saddened to hear of Dan’s passing. I consider myself blessed that he was one of my first real internet friends…I only wish I’d seen/talked/e-mailed with him more in the last couple of years. I can’t even begin to express how much I miss him.

This IS Amy “Hacksaw” isn’t it (oh how I miss the AOL nicknames!)? Not sure you’ll see this (I have no idea if you’re alerted when a comment is added or how that works), but thought I’d drop you a line just in case; I’d love to catch up with you a little–it’s been far too long

Thanks, Jack–and sorry ot hear about your loss. I’m still reeling from the news about Dan…I walked into the Duck Room on Saturday night and somehow expected that his would be the first face I’d see. As John put it in his wonderful tribute to Dan on KDHX yesterday, we lost one of the good ones. One of the best, in fact.

Thanks, Amy, beautifully written. I probably encountered Dan only 3 or 4 times total (mostly)
in St. Louis, plus my one visit to SXSW, yet I remember him vividly, for all the reasons
you list…he was special.

The news last week of Dan’s passing caught me already pretty numb, as a very good friend of mine
in Kansas City had passed away a few days earlier and I’d just returned from that funeral.
Even so, the first image that came to my mind, even in that state, was Dan’s smile and
unbounded curiosity — good things (and easy things) to remember even at such a sad time.
